According to the Daily Mail, Boltinhouse won the Miss North Carolina USA title last month and was set to compete at Miss USA on August 27. Blaize Productions announced on Thursday that it had revoked her title after reviewing “recently surfaced information.” The organization didn’t specify the information in its statement.
The Daily Mail reported that screenshots appearing to show the use of the N-word circulated online, though the outlet said it could not independently verify them.
A member of Boltinhouse’s family said they hope “the proper narrative” will eventually be told rather than one that protects the organization. “As you can imagine, there’s a lot we would like to say,” the family member said. They added that the family plans to respond in prayer and unity and in a way “God calls us to.” Boltinhouse has not commented on the controversy publicly.
Blaize Productions said it made the decision after careful consideration to protect the integrity of the title and uphold the organization’s values. The company also thanked Boltinhouse for her commitment. It asked the public to extend kindness to both her and runner-up Myla Hadley during the transition.
Miss USA chairman Thom Brodeur also said the organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, or demeaning language. He said the decision reflected conduct over an extended period rather than a single incident. He also noted that Boltinhouse plans to release a statement that includes “ownership, accountability and apology.”
Hadley will now represent North Carolina at the Miss USA pageant later this month. She has expressed her gratitude on Instagram and has acknowledged the responsibility that comes along with the title. Hadley said she has been preparing for this opportunity since she first joined the organization.
