The Breakfast Club star Anthony Michael Hall revealed that the director John Hughes once wanted to revive the iconic movie. The actor shared the details of his last phone call with Hughes.

Anthony Michael Hall, 58, who starred in The Breakfast Club, written and directed by John Hughes, appeared on The Rich Eisen Show. He revealed that Hughes shared the idea of a movie sequel during their last phone call, according to The Daily Beast.
During the podcast, he said, “I got to be honest with you, man. I would love to see, um, like a reunion version of The Breakfast Club to see where everybody is now. You know what’s crazy? The last time I spoke to Mr. Hughes, Rich, he called me with John Candy on the phone.”
“It was about 1988, and we just hung out on the phone for a couple hours, and he talked about it at that time. It was something that was on his mind, like the idea of bringing back The Breakfast Club. Like those five characters reunited somehow later in their life and they’re in the workforce and they’re in their 30s,” he added.
Hall revealed Hughes was planning to work on this. However, he does not know whether he wrote the storyline. He further shared that Hughes came up to him during the filming of The Breakfast Club, saying, “I just came up with the other idea for our next film. It’s going to be you and this other kid. You’re going to create a girl in the computer.” Hall further said that Hughes often pitched new movie ideas to him when they were working together.
The director died in 2009 of a heart attack. Hughes and Hall collaborated on various occasions, including The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, and Weird Science.
