William Shatner reportedly considered ending one of Hollywood’s longest-running feuds for a final Star Trek adventure. The sci-fi icon’s renewed interest in playing Captain James T. Kirk also sparked fresh hope for a long-awaited reunion with George Takei.
Fans have waited decades to see the former co-stars share the screen again.

Shatner recently revealed he remained open to reprising Captain Kirk despite turning 95. He explained that age had not diminished his competitive spirit or passion for the legendary role.
“I still have the aggression and the instinct for battle,” Shatner said while discussing a possible return.
That revelation fueled speculation about another Star Trek project featuring surviving members of the original cast. According to RadarOnline, insiders believed such a reunion would require Shatner and Takei to finally resolve their decades-long dispute.
“It would be so wonderful for both of their legacies, and for the fans, if they could come together and make this happen,” a source told the outlet.
The insider also claimed Shatner remained the biggest obstacle to reconciliation. “By all accounts, it’s really Bill standing in the way of this happening because he’s the one who has refused to make peace over and over,” the source said. They added that Shatner’s willingness to revisit Kirk had created “this new wave of hope” that he might finally “bury the hatchet.”
The actors’ feud stretched back to their original Star Trek days during the 1960s. Over the years, they publicly criticized each other through interviews, comedy roasts, and social media exchanges.
Their disagreements also resurfaced after Shatner’s 2021 Blue Origin flight. Takei mocked the mission, while Shatner later suggested his former co-star suffered from a “psychosis.”
Despite that history, friends reportedly encouraged both actors to move forward. “People keep telling Bill there’s just no point carrying this grudge around anymore,” the insider claimed. “If he really wants to breathe new life into Star Trek, George has to be part of it because you simply can’t do a proper reunion without him.”
The source added that fans would consider it “such a crying shame” if lingering resentment prevented one final on-screen moment.
