Cardi says she stole Old Navy clothes in high school before landing an ambassador role
During an Instagram Live, Cardi thanked Old Navy for supporting her. She then admitted, “In high school, I used to steal from you guys all the time.” She also joked that she “never got caught.” Cardi called her new role a full-circle moment.
Cardi described herself as an Old Navy ambassador during the Live. The brand uses a slightly different title. Its official announcement calls her the face of the fall 2026 denim campaign. Old Navy launched the campaign on Aug. 5. It is part of the brand’s “It’s Old Navy” series. The new push is called “Most Wanted Denim.”
Cardi stars with Quenlin Blackwell, Paloma Elsesser, and Brooks Nader. Haley Baylee and Wisdom Kaye also appear. Old Navy says some jeans in the fall line start at $22. The rapper is also pushing the campaign on Instagram. Her profile includes posts marked “#oldnavypartner.” Old Navy’s official account has shared campaign videos with Cardi as well.
Her history with the store goes beyond the shoplifting story. Cardi has said she wore Old Navy while growing up. She also buys clothes from the brand for her children. The campaign has already brought out other stories from her teen years. Cardi recently said she used to stuff her jeans with layers of tights. She did it because she felt insecure about her body at the time.
Her shoplifting story now adds an odd twist. The same store she says she stole from in high school is now putting her at the center of its ads.
