Prince Harry reportedly admitted the one thing about their late mother, Princess Diana, that Prince William couldn’t wrap his head around. While there is no denying that Diana was an icon and her looks are timeless, her sons were not exactly fans of her style. According to a recent report, William and Harry reportedly did not like her “taste in children’s clothes.”
Prince Harry discusses how Prince William viewed Diana’s emotional personality differently
Prince Harry dished in his 2023 memoir “Spare” that Prince William wasn’t a fan of how Princess Diana gave them matching clothes. As per The Royal Observer, the Duke of Sussex wrote: “Willy always hated it when anyone made the mistake of thinking us a package deal. He loathed it when Mummy dressed us in the same outfits. It didn’t help that her taste in children’s clothes ran to the extreme; we often looked like the twins from Alice in Wonderland.”
Harry clarified that he “barely took notice.” The Duke of Sussex confessed he didn’t particularly “care about clothes, mine or anyone else.”
Interestingly, Harry sweetly called out his late mother’s sense of fashion in children’s clothing during a 2017 documentary. The Duke of Sussex said: “One thing I would love to ask her now because I genuinely think that she got satisfaction out of dressing myself and William up in the most bizarre outfits, normally matching.”
“And looking back at the photos, it just makes me laugh. I just think, ‘How could you do that to us?’” he added with a laugh.
Harry explained that, growing up, Prince William absolutely abhorred the idea of having to wear the same outfit as his younger brother. This rivalry over matching clothes and fashion extended when the brothers attended Eton College.
The Duke of Sussex revealed how the Prince of Wales hated the idea of them having to wear the same uniform. He wrote in his memoir: “For Willy, it was pure agony to wear the same blazer, the same tight shorts, as me. And now, to attend the same school, was pure murder.”
