Ex-Prince Andrew could still be in line for a royal funeral, according to reports, despite losing his royal titles and facing renewed scrutiny over his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Gloria Allred, who represents Epstein victims, has questioned whether taxpayers should fund such a ceremony.
Gloria Allred questions whether Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor should receive a taxpayer-funded royal funeral after his association with Jeffrey Epstein
Ex-Prince Andrew is facing renewed scrutiny over reports about his potential funeral arrangements. According to RadarOnline, the Duke of York, 66, allegedly remains on a private government file covering after-death arrangements for senior royals. The report says the government kept the arrangements in place even after ex-Prince Andrew lost his royal titles following the Epstein scandal.
The former royal is now facing calls to be denied a taxpayer-funded funeral. Attorney Gloria Allred has questioned why Andrew should receive an elaborate royal funeral.
She said, “Andrew has brought disgrace upon the Royal Family and the UK as a result of his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. Under these circumstances, the question arises as to why this man should be afforded the honor of a royal funeral. What kind of message would such a ceremony send to Epstein’s victims?” “Additionally, why should UK taxpayers bear the burden of paying his expenses either in life or after his death?” she asked.
Representatives of Epstein victims and politicians have challenged the reported funeral plans. According to the report, the alleged arrangements involve a significant royal ceremony. It includes a service at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. The alleged plans would then have Andrew buried in the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore. The reported arrangements could cost taxpayers as much as $11 million.
Conservative shadow Home Office minister Alicia Kearns has also criticized the suggestion. She said, “There are no circumstances under which Andrew should be afforded a royal funeral. He should live out his days far from public life, and the police should ensure their investigations into him are robust and don’t drag on. All such plans should be revoked immediately.”
Ex-Prince Andrew’s reputation and royal standing collapsed amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal and his widely criticized BBC interview. He subsequently lost his royal duties and patronages.
