Ewan McGregor recalls filming Bleeding Love with Clara McGregor and confronting their father-daughter relationship on screen
McGregor noted that his post-divorce rift with daughter Clara has greatly improved after he starred in a film with her. The actor of Obi-Wan Kenobi fame has declared that his split with Mavrakis was especially hard on his children. He said, “It was a very painful time. My children were very hurt, Clara was very hurt and Clara was — I’m very grateful for it now — but she was very open with me, very vocal with me, and expressed her anger very well.”
According to The Times, the actor revealed at the Edinburgh International Film Festival that he was “really scared” when Clara approached him to act as her father. The movie called “Bleeding Love” was released in 2024. Thankfully, for McGregor, the film was not biographical. “It was about the reparation of a relationship between a father and daughter that hadn’t fully happened between us,” McGregor said. “It was a very important part of that for me and her by being on set together and telling a story about an estranged daughter. Not biographical but massive elements that are.”
The actor also recalled that there was one “incredible, brilliant moment when she [Clara] fully lets her dad have it; really tells him what she thinks of him and she was able to do so in reality.” The moment of clarity made the actor more aware of her daughter’s feelings about estrangement.
After divorcing Mavrakis, McGregor married the American actress and singer Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 41. They have a five-year-old son. Clara, reportedly, did not take the split well.
Ewan McGregor is a Scottish actor best known for Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, and playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars.
