Kathryn Hahn appears excited about her role as Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action “Tangled.”
The role gives her the chance to showcase her singing and dancing skills, something she says she cherishes.
Kathryn Hahn says singing and dancing in Disney’s live-action Tangled is a ‘big next step’
The role marks the actress’s second opportunity to showcase her singing and dancing skills after she made her singing debut in Marvel’s WandaVision. The actress, 52, is stepping into the challenging role of Mother Gothel. Here, she will sing, dance, and even climb up Rapunzel’s magical golden hair.
The actress has revealed that she had never sung professionally before taking on the Marvel role. Hahn impressed audiences with her performance as the witch Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. She later reprised the role in Agatha All Along, where she led the coven in performing “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road.”
People pointed out that people may not have known about the actress’s singing skills before the Marvel project. “I don’t know if I’d say that, but I definitely, I’m really good at karaoke,” Hahn says. “I’ve never really sung professionally in anything before Agatha, which was a treat. So this is a big next step for me.” Hahn revealed that her go-to musical artist is Pat Benatar.
Hahn also revealed that the experience has felt like being in the stage musical “Fame.” “I’m just telling people that it feels like I’m in Fame right now. I’m rehearsing in Spain,” she says. “They’re shooting and I’ve been rehearsing. I’ve been singing and dancing. It’s so fun. Never thought at this stage in the game that that’s what I would do.”
Singing is not the only challenging aspect of her role in “Tangled.” Dancing has been the more difficult part. “Flexibility is a big one for me. Grace, natural grace and agility doesn’t come very easily. So that’s been a real fun thing to figure out,” she explains.
