Gracie Abrams on Quitting Weed: ‘I’m Handcuffed to the Couch’

Gracie Abrams is explaining why weed no longer fits easily into her life. The singer says she rarely smokes now after realizing how much it limits her freedom. However, Abrams has not sworn it off completely. Instead, she has found herself valuing spontaneity and staying present with the people around her.

Gracie Abrams opens up about ditching weed to reclaim her “spontaneity”

During the Aug. 20 Therapuss with Jake Shane episode, Abrams said she does not smoke much anymore. She explained that her relationship with weed has changed over time.

Abrams recalled smoking more frequently during the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, she admitted there are moments when she thinks weed can feel like “the best thing.”

However, the downside now matters more to her. Abrams said she wants to stay available for the people in her life. In addition, she wants the freedom to respond to unexpected opportunities.

Weed, she explained, can instead leave her feeling as though she is “handcuffed to the couch.”

“I think I prefer the freedom of feeling mobile and able,” Abrams added, according to Just Jared.

The latest Gracie Abrams weed comments also connect with things she has shared before. Earlier this month, Abrams opened up about anxiety and her past marijuana use. She said she once used marijuana to avoid dealing with uncomfortable feelings.

Meanwhile, Jake Shane explained why he stopped smoking as well. He said singer Role Model inspired him after discussing his own decision to quit.

Abrams is currently promoting her third album, Daughter From Hell. She previously spoke candidly about the privilege that helped shape her career while discussing the album and her upbringing.

For now, Gracie Abrams quitting smoking does not mean she has ruled weed out forever. Instead, she says she simply prefers the spontaneity that comes with using it far less.
