Amelia Dimoldenberg is developing a BBC young adult drama she describes as her version of ‘Skins’
As reported by Deadline, Dimoldenberg wants to create a Gen Z version of the E4 drama “Skins”. Running from 2007 to 2013, the series launched the careers of Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel, Kaya Scodelario, Joe Dempsie, Hannah Murray, Jack O’Connell, and Daniel Kaluuya. The teen drama was known for its unflinching portrait of teen life.
The online creator told Edinburgh TV Festival that the planned drama was “my version of Skins.” Dimoldenberg said that though the project’s development has been lengthy, she would “will it into existence.”
Chicken Shop Date is Amelia Dimoldenberg’s hit YouTube interview series. The show combines awkward flirting and celebrity interviews, becoming a viral pop-culture phenomenon. She is also in the works with Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures on a romantic comedy film.
Though intended for the BBC, the project has not been announced by the British broadcaster. The YouTube star did not go into any of the details of the project. She, however, revealed that she has always dreamt about working in television.
Dimoldenberg has been carefully curating her career after growing Chicken Shop Date into a viral sensation. The show has now become an integral part of the publicity circuit for movie and music stars.
Though the show has gained raving reviews, some guests have been hard to reach. The creator has expressed her wish to interview Timothée Chalamet and told her team to try for Pope Leo XIV.
Even as the show gained recognition and reach, Dimoldenberg has maintained a no-royal policy. “I’m going to stand firm on my no royal policy,” when asked whether she would make an exception for Meghan Markle.
