According to Rob Shuter, the palace is not particularly concerned about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK. He claimed that while their arrival is likely to attract significant attention, the palace recognizes that publicity does not necessarily translate into power. Despite the headlines surrounding the Sussexes, he said the royal household remains aware that they have no control over the monarchy.
Shuter also reflected on how distance can fuel intrigue, while proximity can have the opposite effect. He suggested that the palace may actually prefer the Sussexes to remain in Britain, arguing that being closer to the royal family could eventually make them seem more ordinary. By contrast, distance can create greater curiosity and amplify interest in their every move.
He further claimed that the Sussexes are expected to continue living as private individuals in the UK. However, their return could also give King Charles an opportunity to privately reconnect with his son and spend more time with his grandchildren.
He further mentioned, “Initially, every sighting will generate headlines. But the Palace understands what happens when you stop feeding a story: eventually it shrinks.” He stated that despite their return, the royals will continue their normal working lives.
He even suggested that though the Sussexes can dominate the headlines, what they can’t do is return to a working monarchy. He claims that the palace won’t try to silence the buzz surrounding the Sussexes but would simply stop listening to them.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Archie, and Lilibet are expected to return to the UK for an extended stay. However, the Sussexes will reportedly not be provided with royal accommodation or taxpayer-funded security. Instead, the family is expected to stay in private accommodation outside London.
