Trish Gold and Jamie Jakimo, who worked on all 10 seasons of Summer House, explained what they look for when casting reality stars.
According to PEOPLE, during a TV show panel, the showrunner and producer shared why some people struggle on Summer House. For Trish Gold, one of the biggest red flags in a reality star is a lack of openness.
She said, “If we get a sense that somebody is hiding something or being cagey… that’s a really that’s a red flag. It’s just not gonna work for this show because also to put someone on a show where the cast members are being so open and honest and vulnerable. It’s not respectful to, you know, the ones who were there before, so that’s, you know, a big thing.”
The reality show is filmed in a way that allows the crew and cameras to follow the cast everywhere, even in Pantry.
“I think people who come onto the show as new cast members don’t really understand. They’re like, ‘Oh, this is like really, truly what’s happening. This is my real life.’ And I think that’s what’s special about Summer House,” said Gold.
She explained that unscripted moments bring humor and personality to the show. Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard, who appeared on the panel, agreed with Gold and are part of Summer House casting season 10. Radke also spoke about how the audience has seen the cast members navigate their ups and downs.
Jamie Jakimo praised the cast for showcasing their real lives on screen. While talking about Radke and Lindsay, she said, “These two, amongst the rest of our cast, have been so open about everything that they’re going through in their lives, and everything that we capture on the show is real.
Currently, they are filming Summer House Season 11 and Season 10 is available for streaming.
