Ozzy Osbourne’s long-awaited biopic is moving closer to production. His son Jack Osbourne shared a major update on the film and confirmed that the script is now complete. The family is also looking for a director. He said they already have an actor in mind to play his late father.
Jack Osbourne says Dad Ozzy’s biopic is moving ahead as producers begin seeking directors
Jack shared the update during an interview with E! News. “We’re currently going out to directors, and we are very — it’s gung ho,” he said. Jack also confirmed that the family has someone in mind to play Ozzy. But he can’t say the actor’s name yet, he said.
Jack said conversations have already taken place about the role. “If it all works out, it’s gonna be awesome,” he said. He also explained that the family wants to make a movie that gives Ozzy’s fans what they want. Jack said they do not want to make an “artsy, kind of esoteric biopic.”
Sony first announced the film in 2021 with Osborne Media and Polygram Entertainment. The film will be about the relationship between Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, and will be produced by Sharon, Jack and Aimee Osbourne. Rocketman screenwriter Lee Hall wrote the screenplay. The film will also feature music from Ozzy’s solo career and his years as Black Sabbath’s frontman.
Ozzy died at 76 on July 22, 2025, after suffering cardiac arrest and an acute myocardial infarction. His family shared the news with PEOPLE and said he died surrounded by his loved ones. Weeks earlier, Ozzy performed his final show in Birmingham on July 5. He reunited with Black Sabbath for the farewell concert, marking his first performance with the band in 20 years.
For now, fans will have to wait for more details as Jack and his family continue working to bring Ozzy’s story to the big screen.
