While the feature itself drew attention to the actress, some commenters focused on her appearance instead. Several users quickly told her to shave, with one writing, “One word: shave.” Another said, “Shave them pits jesus,” while a third responded with a series of scissors emojis.
The comments prompted Rao to address the criticism directly. She later reposted the Hollywood Reporter article on her Instagram Story and thanked the outlet for featuring her. She then turned her attention to those who had been discussing her armpit hair.
“& to all the people in the comments who think this is a lot of hair, dm me & I’ll send you a pic of my bush,” she wrote. She added that it “goes down to around my knee in the winter.”
Rather than responding angrily, Rao used humor to make her point. Her message suggested that she was completely comfortable with her body hair and had no interest in changing her appearance simply because strangers online told her to.
