Howard Stern, 72, is taking his long-running radio show to a new platform. The Howard Stern Show, known for Stern’s celebrity interviews and conversations, is coming to HBO Max in a new filmed format. The show will now allow viewers to see the guests, studio antics, and enjoy conversations that were previously available mainly through audio.
Howard Stern is officially bringing his show to HBO Max after dodging months of intense retirement speculation
HBO Max has struck a deal with Stern’s production company and SiriusXM to release weekly filmed episodes of the show, as per Variety. The series will premiere worldwide on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 12:01 a.m. PT/3:01 a.m. ET, with new episodes arriving every Thursday.
With this move, viewers will get a new way to watch Stern’s SiriusXM show. At the same time, the radio program has recently scaled back to one episode per week. Now, however, the filmed version will let audiences see more of what happens behind the scenes.
“As the ‘King of All Media,’ I am honored to bring my SiriusXM show to HBO Max, and through HBO Max to worldwide distribution,” Stern said in a statement. “For years, my SiriusXM show has offered only brief video peeks. HBO convinced me to pull back the curtain and let the world watch; the amazing celebrities and musicians who drop by, our staff antics, and my conversations with Robin.”
The HBO Max deal comes after questions about Stern’s future. The 72-year-old host renewed his SiriusXM contract for three years in December, and his next SiriusXM season will begin Sept. 14, with new episodes airing every Monday.
Alongside that, SiriusXM is introducing changes to Stern’s long-running Howard 100 channel, including an expanded “Wrap Up Show” and new ways for listeners to access his extensive archive.
SiriusXM president and chief content officer Scott Greenstein said Stern’s continued run represents “another exciting chapter in an extraordinary run.” For now, Stern’s new SiriusXM deal keeps his live show exclusive to the platform through 2028. At the same time, his HBO Max partnership will bring the show to a global audience.
