Now, the American cook has finally broken her silence on the feud and offered clarity.
Ina responds to the long-running questions surrounding her friendship with Martha
Recently, on Saturday, August 29, Ina Garten spoke with The New York Times, where she discussed her relationship with Martha Stewart. During the conversation, the 78-year-old addressed the long-running questions surrounding their rumored feud, saying that they are friendly.
Garten said, “Can I just say I admire her enormously? I think what she created is stunning, and she did it with vision.”
“I mean, we’re friendly, there’s no antipathy. She moved to Bedford, and she used to live in East Hampton, so we saw each other then,” she added.
During the interview, Ina Garten was also asked about Martha Stewart saying she had never made any of her recipes, which sounded like she was pointing at Ina. The New York-born cook simply responded that it was Martha’s decision, adding that she had made many of her recipes.
Garten said, “No. Certainly hers to decide. I didn’t know what to make of that. I’ve certainly made lots of hers.”
When it comes to the story of Ina Garten and Martha Stewart’s friendship and feud, the two first met in 1990 when the 85-year-old Barefoot Contessa went shopping. During the early days of Garten’s career, Martha Stewart helped her a lot.
Their relationship reportedly became strained around 2004 when the American businesswoman said that Ina had stopped speaking to her after she went to prison. Garten later denied this, saying that the reason they stopped speaking was not Martha’s time in prison but her decision to leave the Hamptons and move to Bedford, another area of New York.
