Joey King Responds to ‘Practical Magic 2’ Hater Who Quickly Backs Down

Joey King has been making headlines lately for her upcoming film Practical Magic 2, but for whatever reason, some haters have taken issue with her casting and targeted the actress. Now, A Family Affair fame has responded to the haters with a calmness that no one saw coming.

Joey King said starring in Practical Magic 2 was an honor as a fan

The controversy began on TikTok, where a fan criticized the 27-year-old’s casting in Practical Magic 2, writing that Joey King’s involvement had “completely ruined” what could have been a beautiful, witchy fan-favorite movie. The user then added, “Like sorry queen I’m sure you’re sweet.” In response, Joey wrote that it was an honor for her to be part of the film, as she has always been a massive fan of the original.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s coverage, King wrote, “Awww no!! I do hope you like the movie; it was a true honor to be in it as a massive fan of the original myself.”

“I know it’s hard sometimes when legacy sequels are made, and casting is different than what certain people envisioned, but I only ask that you open your mind a little and see how much fun I had making it,” she added

Joey concluded, “Being an [Owens] woman is not something I take lightly, and I hope that respect shines through.”

The Kissing Booth star’s response won over the troll, who later deleted the harsh comment. In a fresh comment, the critic not only praised the actress but also said that, as an apology, they would buy two tickets to watch Practical Magic 2.

Practical Magic 2 will arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026, with Joey King taking on the role of Kylie Owens. The film will also feature new cast members Maisie Williams as Antonia Owens, Lee Pace as Ian Wright, Xolo Maridueña as Gideon and Solly McLeod as Thomas Lockland.

Meanwhile, the returning cast includes Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens, Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens, Dianne Wiest as Bridget “Jet” Owens, and Stockard Channing as Frances Owens.
