During the final show of her tour, Grande performed her 2018 breakup anthem Thank U, Next. But instead of singing the original lyric, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh,” she changed it to “I’m tryna make him my last,” fueling speculation about their future.
Fans went wild over the moment, flooding social media with reactions. A fan wrote on X, “THE MARRIAGE IS COMING.” Another commented, “Ariana really brought Ricky back for one last moment. What a way to close the tour.”
Alvarez and Grande first met in 2014, when he became her backup dancer. He appeared in live performances and music videos for songs including Problem and Santa Tell Me. They dated from April 2015 to July 2016. Despite ending their relationship, Alvarez and Grande continued to be friends. Following her split from Ethan Slater, the Grammy-winning singer was spotted with Alvarez on June 26 in Austin, Texas, before her Eternal Sunshine Tour performance.
Grande confirmed her romance with Álvarez on Instagram on August 12 by sharing a photo dump featuring the pair together. A source close to Grande told People on July 7, “Ricky has always been a friend and confidant. She really trusts him. He has such great, positive energy, makes her laugh, and she enjoys spending time with him.”
The source also said Grande is “doing really well” since her split from Wicked co-star Slater after nearly three years of dating. And further added that Grande’s relationship with Slater was “100% over.” She is now focused on her tour and spending time with the people who have always supported her.
