Lewis Hamilton made a bold fashion statement ahead of the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy. The 41-year-old driver arrived in a look that quickly caught fans’ attention. His outfit looked more suited for winter than a hot Italian afternoon. The unusual choice sparked plenty of reactions online.
Lewis Hamilton stunned onlookers by wearing a heavy winter coat in blistering heat
Hamilton arrived at the Italian Grand Prix on Sept. 3 in a fiery Ferrari F40. He wrote in the caption, “I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realise that dream today.” However, it was his attire that grabbed attention.
He wore a black suit and tie with a long camel coat and a hat. The city reached 90 degrees that day, making the layered outfit stand out even more. Fans quickly questioned his choice in the comments on F1’s Instagram post.
One fan wrote, “There’s a lot of hot in Italy for using a coat…” Another joked on X, “Hope the F40 has AC onboard.” Some fans, however, believed Hamilton planned the outfit as a fashion callback. They pointed to the suit he wore when he announced his Ferrari deal in 2025.
The appearance also garnered a lot of compliments for Hamilton. One Instagram user called it “the aura farm of the century” and added, “I’m afraid nothing comes close.” His bold fashion choices have made him a familiar face in the fashion world. Hamilton has been attending the Met Gala since 2015 and was co-chair with Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour in 2025.
For the 2025 Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” Hamilton wore a custom cream suit and matching beret from Wales Bonner. The designer worked on the look with Hamilton and stylist Eric McNeal. Hamilton told Vogue that he and McNeal are “very thoughtful and intentional” about fashion. He also hoped guests would research their outfits and think deeply about what they wore.
Hamilton has also recently embraced a more casual style during outings with Kim Kardashian. The two shared several moments during the summer through social media posts. On Aug. 18, Hamilton posted a PDA-filled photo of them wearing swimsuits during their Hawaii getaway. The new Italian Grand Prix look now adds another memorable fashion moment to his summer.
