Saldaña, 48, entered the conversation after Barstool Sports’ Kevin Clancy criticized Season 3 on Instagram. Clancy questioned why the show was using multiple timelines. He said the storytelling approach made the recent episodes confusing.
“One of the most BAFFLING decisions I’ve ever seen from a television show,” Clancy wrote. He argued that the multiple timelines did not add value to the story. Clancy also admitted he remained a fan of the series.
The critic specifically struggled with Joe’s abduction storyline. Season 3 moved between different periods surrounding the incident. That structure left some viewers uncertain about when certain scenes occurred.
Clancy said he became confused whenever Joe appeared on screen. He joked about repeatedly trying to determine which timeline he was watching. However, Saldaña urged viewers not to give up yet.
“Just keep watching! Promise you won’t regret it!” Saldaña replied. She added several laughing emojis to her response.
Season 3 introduced a major shift for Saldaña’s character. Joe was abducted after the series initially appeared to be introducing another Lioness. The storyline also revealed that she was nearly taken six months earlier.
That twist created the season’s dual-timeline structure. The episodes then moved between the past and present. The storytelling choice became a major point of discussion among viewers.
Laysla De Oliveira previously admitted the timeline was difficult to follow. She said she needed a chart to understand where certain scenes belonged. The actress also praised the wardrobe team for helping distinguish the different periods.
Jill Wagner offered another explanation for the unusual structure. She said scheduling issues affected some characters behind the scenes. According to Wagner, Taylor Sheridan decided to “play with time” to solve those problems.
Despite the criticism, Saldaña appeared confident in the storyline. For now, she encouraged frustrated viewers to stay with Lioness.
