Andrew Garfield talks about his acting break in 2022
Andrew Garfield recently gave an interview where he discussed being offered roles in projects related to technology and artificial intelligence, and his role in Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt. During the discussion, the topic of his year-long acting break came up, which the two-time Oscar nominee described as a period of rest and reflection.
Garfield told Vanity Fair that his one-year acting hiatus was “a period of time where [he] wanted to rest.” “I wanted to just reflect,” he added.
The 42-year-old first announced his acting break in April 2022. Speaking to Variety while promoting his series Under the Banner of Heaven, Garfield explained that he was going to use his break to “recalibrate” and “reconsider” what he wanted next in his career. He also said that he would use the break to “be a bit ordinary for a while.”
In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Garfield deemed his break “very important,” as he spent a lot of time working incredibly hard. He reasoned that he wanted to “refill the well” so that he could progress in his career “authentically” without the pressure to “keep up.”
Since coming out of his acting break, Garfield has starred in two projects. These are John Crowley’s We Live in Time, where he co-starred alongside Florence Pugh, and the aforementioned After the Hunt, which also features Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri.
He is now preparing for The Magic Faraway Tree, Artificial, The Uprising, and Voyagers.
