Travis Kelce Says His TD Record Was ‘Soured’ by Chiefs Loss

Travis Kelce recently broke the NFL’s TD record for most touchdowns during Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs-Denver Broncos match. However, he admitted in the latest episode of the New Heights podcast that the accomplishment felt bittersweet as it took place in a match the Chiefs lost. In the game, the Chiefs suffered a 22-19 loss at the Broncos’ hands.

Travis Kelce talks about Chiefs’ loss

In the latest New Heights episode, Jason Kelce told viewers that Travis Kelce was now a triple crown holder, due to breaking records for most receptions, most yards, and most TDs. The ex-Philadelphia Eagles center reminded his brother how he liked to downplay his accomplishments. He told the latter that his recent accomplishment was a big deal and not to downplay it.

Jason touched upon the Chiefs’ history and told Travis that he deserved all the credit for his recent accomplishment. Travis replied by thanking Jason and adding, “It’s an honor, man.”

Travis admitted that his achievement felt “soured” as it came off the Chiefs’ fifth loss in the current NFL season. However, he expressed respect for the NFL and players within and outside the Chiefs for carving the path to his accomplishments and for creating an opportunity for him to make a living and live out his childhood dreams.

Travis added that he loved working. He stressed that approaching his work with the “right mindset and right attitude,” and having a good coach and quarterback helped him “pile up some stats.” He then expressed determination to continue breaking records and to try and get the Chiefs into the playoffs.

The 36-year-old’s touchdown or 84th career score took place during the early portion of the Chiefs-Broncos match’s fourth quarter. The touchdown gave the Chiefs their first lead. However, it also became their final score of the game. Notably, before the match, Travis’s touchdown record was tied with former Chiefs running back Priest Holmes.

Despite the Chiefs’ loss, Kelce’s accomplishment was celebrated. Patrick Mahomes praised Kelce, saying, “He deserves it, the work he puts in every day” (via ESPN).

However, Kelce’s disappointment initially led to him not recognizing his accomplishment. While deflecting questions from reporters, he told them, “If you were going to ask me about the [franchise] record, I could care less about that right now.”
