Adam Sandler is used to being noticed; however, Sandler recently said that the 1995 NBA game that he attended with George Clooney made him feel “invisible.” The actor recently looked back on their friendship as they are starring alongside one another in the upcoming film Jay Jelly.
Adam Sandler recalls going to an NBA game with George Clooney
Adam Sandler recalled a night out with George Clooney when the latter was starring in ER. At the time, the show was immensely popular, and accordingly, Clooney was recognized by a lot of fans in attendance. Sandler recalled, “It was at the height of ER, and I went to a Knicks game with George. I remember feeling as invisible as I’ve ever felt. I thought I was becoming a star, and I was like, ‘Oh, not a soul’s looking at me.’ Every woman in the place was looking at him, every guy’s going, ‘Man, I wish I was that guy.’” (via The New York Times)
Clooney, on the other hand, remembered the night with Adam Sandler in a more fun way. He spoke about staying in touch with Sandler over the years before they eventually found the right project to work on together.
Continuing, both men observed fame’s downside as well through a family lens. Clooney gave an example of his aunt Rosemary and her struggles. He said, “I’d seen it from the point of view of my aunt. It’s a great lesson because you understand how little it has to do with you and that there is no success at all without massive amounts of failure.”
Sandler reminisced about all the years that he auditioned in the industry without getting roles. However, the failure did not stop him. The actor said, “It didn’t ever get in my way. Because I was young and I just was like, ‘All right, keep going. Go, go, go, until it happens.’”
Jay Kelly, starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, has been released in some select theaters. It will be available to stream on Netflix from December 5, 2025.
