A young girl’s honest response to weatherman Al Roker has gone viral. The Today anchor tried to give away a ticket to the Rockette’s signature show during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to a girl who was celebrating her seventh birthday. That would normally be a great gift to receive, but when she was handed the prize in the form of large golden ticket, the child was less than thrilled about it.
Al Roker’s Rockettes giveaway goes wrong
During the parade on Thursday, November 27, Al Roker stood in front of a group of Rockettes in front of Radio City Music Hall when he tried to give a girl named Elliot a surprise birthday present on live TV.
“Are you excited to see the Rockettes?” Roker asked the child, who wore a pink and purple beanie cap.
When Elliot said “yeah,” the weatherman replied, “We’ve got a very special something for you. You’ve got a golden ticket!”
As Roker tilted the microphone toward the girl hoping for an excited response, she stared at the ticket for several moments without giving much of a reaction. “Now you get to see them! They’re the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes! Are you excited?” Roker said.
That’s when the girl turned around, smiled, and confessed, “I did that yesterday.”
“You did it yesterday!” Roker replied while the Rockettes laughed in the background. The weatherman tried to salvage the situation as best as he could. “Well, my golly! Well, you get to see them again!”
Still staring down at the ticket, the girl responded with a flat “Yay.”

Last week, Roker explained what happened to his old wax figure at Madame Tussauds that was made when he was around 300 lbs. He also lightly scolded his cohosts over making a ‘6-7’ meme joke.
