Prince William Visits Injured Children From Gaza: Details

Prince William is said to have been “moved” by a meeting with injured children from Gaza who are being treated at hospitals in the UK. Due to the collapse of medical care in Gaza, the children are being cared for by the National Health Service as part of a government humanitarian mission.

“The Prince wished to offer a moment of comfort to these young people who have endured experiences no child should ever face,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson told PEOPLE of William’s hospital visit.

“His Royal Highness was moved by the courage shown by the children and their families,” the spokesperson continued.

The representative also spoke of William’s “heartfelt gratitude” for the NHS staff. And the statement praised the medical team for “providing exceptional care during such a profoundly difficult time.”

Prince William has kept a close eye on the conflict in Palestine, and his feelings about it are clear. Ahead of a British Red Cross headquarters visit last year, the future King made a rare statement on it. “I remain deeply concerned about the terrible human cost of the conflict in the Middle East,” he said. “There is a desperate need for increased humanitarian support to Gaza.”

The Prince of Wales continued: “I, like so many others, want to see an end to the fighting.”

“It is only when faced with the sheer scale of human suffering that the importance of permanent peace is brought home,” he added. “Even in the darkest hour, we must not succumb to the counsel of despair. I continue to cling to the hope that a brighter future can be found. And I refuse to give up on that.”
