While drugs are often the cause of one’s demise, for Andy Dick it may well have been what saved his life. The comedian, who has a history of addiction problems, suffered an apparent overdose this week and was discovered slumped over by a witness who claims he was blue and unresponsive.
Andy admitted to smoking crack cocaine this week. Andy’s drug and alcohol problems have been ongoing for years. As a result, he’s been in and out of jail cells and numerous clinics trying to address these issues.

By all accounts, Andy is lucky to still be alive. Ironically, having a certain drug in his system may be why he’s still breathing today. Andy admitted to TMZ that he’d been smoking crack on occasion. Had there only been that drug in his system, though he may not be around to tell his tale.
It’s believed that he was revived for one reason: fentanyl. The former actor from NewsRadio likely had that in his system when he was seen passed out. A shot of Narcan brought him back to life. According to William Bodner at the Los Angeles DA’s office, Narcan reverses the effects of opioid overdoses like fentanyl or heroin but not crack.
Andy has said he doesn’t see a problem doing crack every now and again. He’s been in and out of rehab facilities for his drug problem countless times and says he has no plans to return.
Reportedly, the chemical structure of fentanyl breaks down once someone lights up before losing its potency. It is believed that the drug will still have some effect but won’t be as strong. Apparently, it also won’t have a lethal effect on a person.
In 2018, he was ordered to register as a sex offender following a conviction.
