Barry Manilow Releases Statement After Cancer Diagnosis

Singer and songwriter Barry Manilow just revealed the heartbreaking news that he’s been diagnosed with cancer. Sharing details, the 82-year-old said a “cancerous spot” was found on his lung following a battle with bronchitis.

Barry Manilow will have surgery to “remove spot on his lung”

“As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks,” Barry said in a statement shared on Instagram. “Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.”

“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed,” Barry continued.

Barry then went on to share some “good news” and “bad news” with fans in relation to his diagnosis.

“It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early,” the music legend said. “That’s the good news.” The bad news, he added, is that his current run of concerts would be over while he undergoes surgery to “have the spot removed.”

With any luck, though, Barry’s treatment could be over soon enough. “The doctors do not believe it has spread, and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis,” he explained. “So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

To allow him time to recover, Barry announced that his January concert dates would be rescheduled. For that, he told fans he is “very sorry.”

“Sending you healing vibes and good wishes for a quick recovery,” a fan said in response to Barry’s statement. “You will be in my prayers,” commented another fan. “Take care and we will see you soon.”

“Sending much love to you, Barry! Please take good care of yourself, and know that I will keep you in my prayers,” a third fan shared.

We’re also sending thoughts and hopes for a speedy recovery.
