Nick Jonas has kicked off 2026 by embracing total vulnerability in his latest musical chapter. The 33-year-old singer released a new single titled “Gut Punch”, which embraces his life as a father to Malti Marie and husband to Priyanka Chopra.
The new track serves as the lead preview for his upcoming fifth solo album, “Sunday Best”, which is scheduled for release on February 6, 2026.
Nick Jonas contemplates fatherhood and if he was a good dad to daughter in new song
In the lyrics of “Gut Punch,” Nick Jonas opted to move away from standard pop themes and explored his own self-image and personal growth. The singer admitted that he often finds himself being hyper-critical, questioning whether he is truly being the best version of himself for his family.
“Am I a present and thoughtful husband? Am I a good father?” he quipped in a statement regarding the song’s meaning.
He further noted that while life’s stresses can cloud one’s perspective, he wrote this track to reconnect with a more carefree version of himself.
The song begins softly with musings on his physical and personal growth before building into a powerful chorus. Addressing his internal struggles, Jonas sings, “Hit me like a gut punch / I hurt my own feelings / How did I get so good at being mean to myself?”
Furthermore, he touched on different social habits, such as people-pleasing and faking smiles, while wondering what life would be like if he simply tried being kinder to the person in the mirror.
Fans first experienced the track live during Jonas’ tour stop in Las Vegas in November 2025. Most recently, Jonas performed the song at the Samsung TV Plus New Year’s Eve celebration.
“Sunday Best” marks Jonas’s first solo effort since 2021’s “Spaceman,” following the Jonas Brothers’ 2025 release, “Greetings from Your Hometown.”
