More tragedy has struck the Swayze family. Patrick Swayze’s younger brother Sean has died, just over 16 years after the Dirty Dancing star.
Patrick succumbed to pancreatic cancer in September 2009 at the age of 57. Sean’s son Jesse confirmed his father’s death with his certificate, citing acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis as the cause. In essence, it’s defined as liver damage because of alcoholism. Patrick and Sean had three other siblings: a brother, Don, and two sisters, Vicki and Bambi, all of whom are still living.
Sean Swayze died on December 15 in LA

Alcohol got the better of Sean, who died shortly before Christmas. Patrick’s younger brother’s death was officially announced on December 15, according to documents obtained by TMZ. Sean’s cousin, Rachel Leon, expressed sorrow over his death, penning an online tribute. Rachel sent prayers to the Swayze family during the difficult time, adding that Sean will be dearly missed.
His death came over a dozen years after his famous brother’s life ended because of cancer. In early 2009, Patrick did an interview with Barbara Walters, saying he first noticed cancer symptoms while celebrating New Year’s Eve in 2008. He recalled having a sip of champagne and getting constant digestive issues because of this. He says that when he looked in the mirror, he thought he was getting skinny. Later that year, Patrick died.
Pancreatic cancer has a very low survival rate and often isn’t detected until you’re in the later stages of the disease. Longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek died of stage four pancreatic cancer in 2020.
In 2012, three years after Patrick’s death, actress Kirstie Alley claimed she had an emotional affair with the Road House star when they worked together on the 80s mini-series North and South. Kirstie died of stage four colon cancer in 2022. Sean was 63.
