Maya Hawke just highlighted a pretty big Stranger Things plot hole, over a week after the hit Netflix series ended. Season 5 of the show closed with a spectacular movie-length episode on New Year’s Day. But, according to Maya, there’s something we missed in the finale.
Maya pointed out a plot hole while filming Stranger Things Season 5
In a new Netflix documentary, fans get a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Stranger Things Season 5. During one clip in One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, Maya asked director Shawn Levy a question about her character … and a plot hole relating to her.
“I have a question,” she said while filming the scene in which Robin, Vickie, Lucas, and Max are hiding in the hospital laundry room after being chased there by a pack of demodogs.
“It hasn’t been talked about very much in any of the scenes that we’ve all been in together,” Maya added of her secret on-screen romance with Vickie, played by Amybeth McNulty. “No one knows that we’re dating.”
Although director Shawn didn’t exactly acknowledge Maya’s point, her storyline had a big impact this season. Robin’s relationship with Vickie played a crucial role in Noah Schapp’s Will coming out. In doing so, he was able to finally access his powers and attack Vecna.
Regardless of her character’s apparent plot hole, Maya is “so happy” with how things ended up for Robin. “It was the happiest I’d been in any read-throughs on the show,” she told The Hollywood Reporter of her character’s final scenes. “I thought it was overwhelmingly beautiful.”
After surviving the big battle with Vecna, Robin is joined by Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan for her final scene. In it, we learn that she headed off to Smith College, but we don’t know about her relationship status with Vickie. That said, Robin makes a comment about “overbearing significant others.” We guess the rest is up to interpretation!
