Millie Bobby Brown Gets Emotional With David Harbour

The realization that Stranger Things was ending was difficult for one of the stars to cope with. Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour went through a lot together, both on and off camera, during the show’s successful run of five seasons.

While reading the ending for her character Eleven, Millie got pretty choked up. She had an emotional moment on screen with David’s character, Hopper near the end of the series, before El went into the abyss to battle Vecna. You could hear the emotions around the table with Millie ahead while reading the scene in advance as could be seen and heard with David.

Part of what made Stranger Things so successful was the chemistry Millie and David developed with their characters. If it felt real when watching their episodes, it’s probably because it likely was to them. During the making of the final episode, entitled One Last Adventure, you could hear in Millie and David’s voices just how emotional and real they were.

“When you found me in the woods, I was just a kid,” read Millie during the table read. She went on to read “But you took me in, and you taught me.” After that, you could see her pausing before looking at David in the room. “You protected me, you raised me, you became my dad,” she concluded.

David had his share of emotional moments as well, including earlier in the table read when co-creator Ross Duffer set the scene for David’s character Hopper. David got choked up when it seemed as though his character, Hopper, had shot El multiple times.

By all accounts, it achieved what the creators wanted: for things between El and Hopper to be messy and complicated. That could sum up the relationship between Millie and David off camera. Millie had previously accused David of bullying and harassment while on set. The two, however, were seen smiling and laughing at a season premiere in November, which one expert called “overkill.”

The series finale came out on Netflix on December 31.
