Nearly two months after the tragic passing of Ethan Browne, his cause of death has finally been revealed. Ethan, who was the son of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame superstar Jackson Browne, sadly passed away at the age of 52 on November 25, 2025.

Per PEOPLE, Ethan died due to the effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and lidocaine. In details shared on January 13, the LA County Medical Examiner also confirmed that Ethan’s death was ruled an accident.
Since the findings were shared, Jackson has yet to comment. But a statement was posted on the musician’s behalf the day after Ethan’s passing. “It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away,” the Facebook statement read. “We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment.”
Ethan was the eldest of Jackson’s two children, and in 1974, at just six months old, he appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine with his dad. Just a few years later, however, tragedy struck. When he was a toddler, Ethan’s mother died by suicide at the age of 30.
In his later years, Ethan became a model and actor. He had roles in movies such as Hackers and Raising Helen, and also appeared in an episode of Birds of Prey on TV. Beyond that, Ethan was the CEO and founder of Spinside Records.
“Rest in paradise beautiful E, and may you finally be with your mom,” someone commented on Instagram after Ethan’s death. “My sincerest condolences to the family. May you rest in eternal peace,” another person shared.
