The Great Expectations actor shared how her ex Ben Affleck was instrumental in reconnecting her with Hollywood icon Robin Williams.

Gwyneth Paltrow reconnected with Robin Williams through the efforts of her former partner, Ben Affleck. Despite sharing screen with the Hollywood legend in the 1991 classic Hook, it was Affleck who played a pivotal role in reestablishing Paltrow’s connection with the Williams.
“I only got to know him a bit when Good Will Hunting came out,” Paltrow recalled during her appearance on a recent episode of Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast. “Because I was dating one of the people who wrote that movie and was in that movie, so I got to know him then.”
Paltrow’s early projects included a notable role in Steven Spielberg’s Hook, a reimagining of the Peter Pan narrative, where she portrayed the younger version of Wendy. The film featured a distinguished cast, including Robin Williams as Peter Pan, Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook, and Maggie Smith as the elder Wendy, with Bob Hoskins appearing as Smee, Hook’s loyal sidekick. However, Paltrow did not actually work directly with Williams, as she had a minor role in the fantasy adventure film.
Several years later, the Goop founder began a romantic relationship with Ben Affleck, which lasted three years before concluding in 1999. During this period, the Batman actor and his friend Matt Damon collaborated on Good Will Hunting, a screenplay about a janitor who is secretly a genius, a project that went on to significantly boost their careers. It was then that Affleck helped Paltrow establish a connection with Williams, who played a counselor to Damon’s character Will in the film.
“Oh, he’s so good,” the 53-year-old entrepreneur gushed about Williams on Poehler’s podcast. “I love that movie. It’s a perfect movie. I love it so much.”
