Hilaria Baldwin has spent years clashing with critics on social media, and she rarely stays quiet when they come for her.
The wife of actor Alec Baldwin still gets dragged over her sporadic Spanish accent and cultural backstory. A turn on Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars only put her back under the microscope. When that attention recently landed on her daughter Carmen, Hilaria jumped in to shut it down.
Carmen Baldwin faced backlash for her outfit online
The situation began after Hilaria shared a video of her 12-year-old daughter, Carmen, dancing with two younger siblings. However, many viewers zeroed in on Carmen’s outfit instead.
One person wrote that Carmen “dressed [too] old for her age” and should “tone it down.” Another asked, “This girl is 12 years old why does she look 25?” In the video, Carmen wore a pearl body chain, a white tank top, a khaki skirt, and black tights.
One comment triggered Hilaria’s response. It read, “How on Earth do you let a 12 y/o dress like this … EVERYTHING!” Hilaria posted an Instagram Reel the next day, pairing it with a cake recipe in the caption.
Hilaria held a whiteboard titled “Untrue Thoughts.” She accused some critics of feeling jealous of youth and being “pushed out” of the “women-prime” era. “My kids are so safe wearing a tank top, skirt, and tights. She’s been wearing that her whole life. So why is it making you uncomfortable?”
Hilaria also pushed back against claims that people were worried about Carmen’s safety. She said her children learn about online boundaries and awareness. “Predators are real — trust me I know — the way to take care of them is not through Instagram comments or shaming”.
She’s addressed perceived online bullying before. After her time on Dancing With the Stars, Hilaria said “mean girls” ran “very coordinated, very strategic” campaigns that affected her run on the show. Her and Alec’s TLC show, The Baldwins, was also met with criticism and dismal ratings.
