Former NBA Player Checks Himself into Rehab After DUI Arrest — Report

Lamar Odom, who was recently arrested on a DUI charge, which included two traffic violations, has reportedly checked into rehab. Notably, Odom has a storied history with drug addiction and substance abuse. In 2001, the former basketball player was suspended for five NBA games for violating the basketball league’s anti-drug policy, following which he admitted he was using marijuana.

The 46-year-old subsequently experienced further trouble between 2013 and 2015, during which his marriage to Khloé Kardashian — who tried to support him in his struggle — ended.

Lamar Odom reportedly checks into rehab after arrest

Lamar Odom reportedly checked into rehab after his recent DUI arrest, according to TMZ Sports. He has since entered iRely Recovery’s 30-day treatment program after his brush with the law brought up past triggers he wanted to tackle.

The outlet, citing the two-time NBA champion’s manager, Gina Rodriguez, reported that Odom was looking to ditch his marijuana usage out of fear that smoking would lead to him abusing hard drugs again.

In a statement to outlets, Rodriguez said, “He’s taking full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his well-being.” She added, “Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy, positive way (via The Daily Mail).”

At the time of his arrest, when he was charged with two traffic violations — driving more than 41 miles/hour over the speed limit and improper lane change/failure to maintain lane — law enforcement officials noted that he had bloodshot, watery eyes and that his car heavily smelled of marijuana. According to authorities, the Khloé & Lamar star initially did not admit to smoking or smoking weed that day before admitting he did “hours earlier” (via TMZ).

During sobriety tests, authorities said they saw Odom show signs of impairment when he was subjected to finger-to-nose, walk-and-turn, modified Romberg balance, and one-leg stand exercises. Impairment signs included swaying, loss of balance, starting too soon, missing the heel-to-toe, stopping mid-way through exercise, and stepping off the line.

The authorities further stated that Lamar Odom had eyelid tremors during the tests, failed to touch the tip of his nose six times, and estimated 30 seconds in 13 seconds. In addition, Odom reportedly agreed to a blood draw. This was after he claimed he had no choice but to participate in more tests because he was a celebrity, despite assurances to the contrary.
