Zara Larsson Reacts To Being Called a ‘Flop’: ‘I’m a Person’

Zara Larsson has reportedly been labeled “flop” online, even as her profile rises. The Swedish pop singer is in Stockholm right now between shows. She is pushing her fifth album, “Midnight Sun,” after her first Grammy nod, with tour shows ahead. In a new sit-down with Nicolaia Rips, the “Lush Life” hitmaker reacted to negative comments, such as being called a “flop” musician, and linked the label to comment culture.

Zara Larsson reacts to critics calling her a ‘flop’ artist in new interview

According to the January 29 interview, titled “It’s Zara Larsson’s Time In The (Midnight) Sun,” Zara Larsson is juggling momentum and noise simultaneously. During the latest interview, the Grammy-nominated musician shared her thoughts on being called a “flop” artist. She stated, “Being called a flop, like, 50 times a day is like, ‘Oh, damn, I’m a person.’”

She also described early industry pressure, saying, “Being 14 in a room full of 40-year-olds, it’s kind of impossible to experiment and find out who you are.” However, the musician said the internet keeps scoring every move. She said her screen time is 16 hours a day. Then she added, “It’s TikTok.”

Even so, Larsson said she still reads comments, stating, “I’m also a comment reader.” The singer is intrigued by human behaviour, and she questions the intent behind every feedback. She stated, “What do people think about this? How is this landing? Why are they feeling this way?’ I just love that.”

Meanwhile, Larsson sees the “Khia Asylum” chatter about “flops” on X (formerly Twitter). She also expressed that the negativity bandwagon is exhausting. Instead, the musician framed her comeback around control and ownership. “It just has to come from within, and I’m the source,” she said. “Now it’s like I can’t really flop.” The singer also added, “If you create something and you love it, that’s a win in itself. And if people aren’t enjoying it, then I don’t know—that’s not really my problem.”

In 2022, Larsson bought back her masters. Then, she launched her production company, Sommer House. Now, she is working on a “Midnight Sun” deluxe edition for March. At her core, Larsson is a performer who loves her job and sees value in her art more than anyone else. She said, “Although I love to perform, it feels so much more meaningful to perform something that couldn’t have been made without me.”
