Green Day Super Bowl Performance Rumors Swirl: Details Are ‘Highly Confidential’ — Report

We’ve known they’ll be performing at the Super Bowl for a while, but not much else. Green Day will kick off the big game on February 8th with an opening ceremony before the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots square off. Given the group’s common political messaging in their songs, many wonder whether it could be part of their agenda this time around. The specific plans for the show, though, are “highly confidential,” according to a source.

Among their most renowned political songs is American Idiot. They even previously changed the lyrics of that famous tune to disavow the MAGA agenda. Many are wondering whether they may change their aggressive lyrics to appease higher-ups for the Super Bowl show.

Much more so than in years past, there’s a tremendous amount of intrigue surrounding the pre-game Super Bowl show this year. Behind it all is the anticipation of what Green Day might do. You might have to wait until February 8 to find out.

Given the power of Donald Trump and the fear that comes with it, some worry the band may play it safe. According to the CEO of Strategic Vision PR Group, David Johnson, that could damage Green Day’s reputation with fans. He thinks they’ll not only maintain their lyrics telling US Mirror they will “double down and make them even stronger.”

The Super Bowl wouldn’t be the first time the group changed lyrics at a big event. At Coachella last year, some lyrics to Jesus of Suburbia were changed. Green Day were reportedly shaded by Charli XCX after Coachella.
