Jelly Roll is looking to give hope to those who may be short of it. The Son of Sinner singer evidently hasn’t forgotten his roller coaster journey to stardom. Last week, he captured three Grammy Awards, including one for Best Contemporary Country Album.
Jelly called it a dream come true to finally capture a Grammy. He’d previously been nominated in each of the previous two years but failed to win. As for what he plans to do with the trophies, one will be kept at the studio. He had a surprising idea for where another one might be headed.
Jelly Roll plans to donate a Grammy to a Nashville jail
Inmates at a Nashville jail may soon have a new shiny trophy to look at. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jelly shared where his second Grammy might go. “I think I’m going to give the second one to the county sheriff, Daron Hall, to put in the jail.”
His reason behind that goes back to his past when he experienced some very dark days. He reflected on that, saying there was a time in his life when he felt broken. That’s how the album Beautifully Broken came to be. There was a time when all he had was a radio the same size as a six-by-eight-foot cell, and he believed those two things could change his life.
Jelly is also no stranger to life behind bars. He spent some time in jail in 2008 for drug possession. He says he believed music and God had the power to turn his life around. In his life, Jelly says he’s been in and out of jail about 40 times.
He’s not only gone through a remarkable transformation in his self-esteem but also in his appearance. In October, it was reported that he’d lost 200 pounds. Having a daughter born in 2008 changed his perspective on life.
Nowadays, Jelly is happily married to Bunnie XO, got his GED in 2023 and achieved a lifelong goal by winning a Grammy. Bunnie has already said she wants to keep the other Grammy for herself.
