Kaley Cuoco is balancing her successful acting career with the demands of motherhood. Recently, she faced a difficult choice when a major work opportunity came her way. While the star is known for her love of television thrillers, she found herself questioning if the timing was right for her family. In a candid new interview, the actress opened up about the emotional struggle of being a working parent. She shared how she eventually made a tough decision for her young daughter.
Kaley Cuoco was hesitant to leave toddler for filming ‘Vanished’ in France
According to PEOPLE, Kaley Cuoco was initially “unsure” about taking a role in the new MGM+ miniseries, Vanished. The project required her to film in Marseille, France, for two months. At the time, her daughter Matilda had just turned two years old. Cuoco admitted she felt a lot of pressure about leaving her toddler behind. She even asked if the production could be moved closer to home. However, she realized that the authentic French scenery was vital for the story.
The actress credited her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, for being her biggest supporter. He encouraged her to take the job, telling her it would be an amazing adventure. Despite his support, Cuoco kept changing her mind about whether to bring Matilda along. She decided to fly to France alone first to check the environment. After just 24 hours in Marseille, she realized the city was “too busy” and “stressful” for a small child. Her rental house was on a mountain with nowhere to walk.
Trusting her gut, she decided it was best for Matilda to stay at home in the U.S. with her family. To make the trip easier, Cuoco brought a piece of home with her by taking her Chihuahua, Opal. The locals in France even gave the dog the French nickname “Opolette.”
By the end of the shoot, Cuoco felt grateful that she had taken the time for herself. She told PEOPLE that she was glad she immersed herself in the work while knowing her daughter was safe and happy at home.
