Being a Hollywood icon usually comes with plenty of perks, but for Gabrielle Union, it doesn’t guarantee respect at home. The star recently shared that her youngest daughter, Kaavia James, remains her toughest critic. Despite a career spanning decades and a massive global fanbase, the seven-year-old remains famously unimpressed by her mother’s celebrity status. It seems that in the Wade-Union household, having a famous mom is just another part of daily life.
Gabrielle Union’s daughter isn’t a big fan of some of mom’s work
According to reports from People and E! News, Gabrielle Union has officially been humbled by her daughter. The actress revealed that Kaavia James does not think her mother is “the coolest,” especially when it comes to her past work. Even Union’s breakout role in the 2000 cheerleading classic Bring It On failed to win over the young girl. Union joked that while James has seen clips and can mimic the famous cheers, she isn’t quite ready for the humor or the hype of the cult classic.
The reports also mention that James prefers Union’s more recent projects. The seven-year-old is reportedly a much bigger fan of her mom’s new film, GOAT. James has even been spotted playing with an action figure of her mother’s character, Jett Fillmore. However, her “Shady Baby” persona is never far away. During a recent promotional interview on Today, James made a surprise appearance to grill her mom on why she chose to do a movie about animals in the first place.
Union has previously referred to her daughter as her own personal “Rotten Tomato.” James is known for giving her mom’s red-carpet looks and movies a “zero percent” rating. Whether she is critiquing her mom’s fashion or her filmography, James is clearly not afraid to speak her mind. For Union, it is a constant reminder that no matter how famous she gets, she will always have to work hard to impress her daughter.
