The ongoing investigation into Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrie‘s kidnapping, has received a major update amid the discovery of a black latex glove. Authorities, who recently conducted an extensive search close to the missing elderly woman’s home and found the item, revealed that they were conducting forensic tests on it.
The evolving case recently experienced a breakthrough. This was after the FBI released images and videos of a masked suspect reportedly involved in Guthrie’s disappearance.
FBI continues research near Nancy Guthrie’s home amid black glove discovery
Authorities recently discovered a black latex glove and are conducting forensic tests on it, a law enforcement officer said. They told Reuters that law enforcement was trying to obtain fingerprints and DNA samples from the glove.
The FBI Evidence Response team discovered the glove on the roadside 1.5 miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home, according to The New York Post, which shared photos and videos of the same. They obtained it while scouring for clues related to the 84-year-old’s abduction. A former FBI agent, Michael Harrigan, told The Post that the item would “be significant” to the investigation if a relation was confirmed. However, he acknowledged the possibility of it being a random glove “discarded by a worker or somebody else” if Guthrie’s DNA wasn’t found on it.
This development comes after the FBI released images and videos of a masked individual approaching Guthrie’s home. Footage showed the suspect covering the camera with flowers they found lying nearby. A law enforcement officer said the video was undergoing “advanced analytics” to provide a clearer view of the masked suspect.
Meanwhile, a former FBI agent shared that investigators were “likely attempting to identify facial features/markers through the fabric” of the ski mask. They said that this could be done via “special mathematical techniques” and even AI, owing to the latter’s recent advancements.
Apart from the video, Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance case received another update. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department recently detained and interrogated a person of interest after suspecting their involvement in the case. However, the person, later identified as Carlos Palazuelos — a delivery driver from Rio Rico — was reportedly released without charges. He has since demanded an apology after insisting he had nothing to do with Guthrie’s disappearance and did not know her (via WDBJ).
