Nancy Guthrie Sheriff Questions if ‘Revenge’ Is Motive as Detectives Are ‘Stuck’

It has been more than two weeks since Nancy Guthrie, who is the mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing. The search for her has seemingly come to a standstill, with little to no leads left to explore, prompting law enforcement to look at the motive behind her disappearance.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke of being “stuck” in the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance.

“This is somebody who’s disappeared from the face of the earth,” Chris said.

“Now we have a camera that says here’s the person who did this,” he added, nodding to the doorbell footage from Nancy’s home that recently went viral. The clip shows a masked intruder outside her Arizona home around the same time she disappeared.

“And that’s what makes me say this is a kidnapping,” the sheriff continued. “The motivation for it is where we get stuck, right? Is it for money? I mean, we had the one demand where they asked for money. But is it really for money, or is it for revenge for something?”

Law enforcement recently confirmed they believe Nancy is still out there. But, they said, bringing her home could take years.

“Maybe it’s an hour from now. Maybe it’s weeks or months or years from now,” Chris told the New York Times. “But we won’t quit. We’re going to find Nancy. We’re going to find this guy.”

Nancy’s family have maintained a similarly positive outlook on the case. Last week, Savannah shared an emotional message on Instagram about her mom’s disappearance. “We believe our mom is still out there,” she said, adding that the family are desperate to “bring her home.”
