Netflix just dropped its docuseries about America’s Next Top Model, and the tea has continued to spill ever since. Many fans (and former contestants) tuned in and were more than willing to share their own experiences. But some of the most touching moments were the insights provided by Miss J Alexander, Nigel Barker, and Jay Manuel. They shared personal experiences, including the challenging aftermath of Miss J’s stroke in 2022 and his continued recovery.

Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model shared insights into the controversial runway reality show. And while there were tons of responses from former contestants and several questionable moments. And the judges weren’t spared from the drama either.
Original panel trio Nigel, Jay, and Miss J talked about their experiences on the show, including their infamous “firing” in 2012.
When Miss J suffered a major stroke in 2022, the two were present to visit and cheer him on in his recovery. Tyra Banks didn’t visit (as the documentary revealed), but she sent flowers. Miss J was in a coma for five weeks and found he couldn’t talk or walk immediately after. It was truly an emotional time.
However, in the documentary, he shared that he is determined to walk again. “I miss being the queen of the runway,” he shared. “I’m the person who taught models how to walk. And now I can’t walk … not yet.”
“J is getting stronger every day,” Jay shared. “He does physical therapy every day. He can get out of that chair. That’s what people don’t know. At the time of the documentary, he couldn’t. He can. He can take steps. And look, if anyone is gonna walk again, it’s Miss J.”
Nigel added that nothing can stop Miss J. He shared that he visited Miss J in the hospital, and he couldn’t move, but he could still muster opening one eye and rolling it at Nigel’s jokes. “I thought, okay, you’re still there,” the photographer said. “We’re gonna get you back.”
