Savannah Chrisley’s Claim That Donald Trump Isn’t Racist Causes The View Hosts to Clash

Savannah Chrisley’s comments about Donald Trump started an argument among The View panel as the reality star wrapped up her stint as a guest co-host. Her defense of Trump prompted immediate pushback from several of the show’s regular hosts.

The conversation began when Whoopi Goldberg introduced a segment about Trump’s mixed messaging during Black History Month. It featured clips of the president discussing his relationships with Black figures, including Rev. Jesse Jackson and Nicki Minaj.

Savannah Chrisley, whose parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, received pardons from Donald Trump in May following their tax evasion and bank fraud convictions, acknowledged understanding concerns about his “rants” but drew a firm line at calling him racist. “What’s so hard for me to witness is people stating that the president is a racist, because I’ve seen him firsthand.” Sunny Hostin immediately interjected: “He is a racist.”

Chrisley pushed back, sharing a personal observation: “He saved one of my best friends’ lives. A Black woman who has been with him for 18 years.” Hostin remained unmoved, responding, “So he has a Black friend. He’s a racist.”

Goldberg stepped in to explain why many Americans view Trump differently, pointing to his administration’s targeting of DEI programs through executive orders. She specifically referenced the March 2025 order “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” which led to the removal of 34 panels and video displays about slavery from Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park.

“When you share racist posts about the Obamas. When you pursue the death penalty for the exonerated five, after you knew they had been exonerated. These are the reasons that his behavior is so hard,” Goldberg said. Hostin doubled down, pointing directly to the Truth Social post as evidence of racism.

When Savannah Chrisley suggested Donald Trump deserves credit for historically funding HBCUs, Hostin corrected her: “That funding was started, Savannah, sweetheart, before Donald Trump got into office.” Ultimately, she conceded that “the White House failed when it came to the posting of that video.”
