Ex-Prince Andrew has been at the centre of the controversy for months. Due to his alleged involvement, he was not only stripped of his royal titles but also asked to vacate the Royal Lodge. But if a source is to be believed, Prince William long asked for the banishment of the former Duke of York over his scandalous BBC interview in 2019.
Prince William was ‘adamant’ about ex-Prince Andrew’s banishment over scandalous BBC interview in 2019
Former Prince Andrew’s exit from the Royal Lodge after being stripped of his titles might have brought relief for Prince William. He long wanted King Charles to banish his younger brother over his scandalous BBC interview in 2019.
According to US Weekly, royal author Russell Myers, who wrote “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story,” has revealed that Prince William has long taken a strong stand against his uncle, but things did not turn out the way he wanted earlier.
“William was absolutely adamant after seeing that BBC Newsnight interview with his uncle and the disastrous explanations that he gave for being friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein,” the author told the outlet. Myers added that seeing his uncle “refusing to apologize for his relationship” was an “absolute red line for William.”
As per Myers, the Prince of Wales “actually said to the late queen and his father [King Charles III], ‘He has to be banished. Andrew has to be rid of both the public and the private royal family.’”
Although Andrew’s “scandal has been a stain on the royal family,” Myers believes that if William had been the king at the time, he “would have taken certain measures to have Andrew completely out of the picture.”
However, as per Myers, the future monarch “understands that his father needs to take the lead on this, and he’s willing to support him in any way he can.”
