Fox News issued an apology after a broadcast during coverage of a recent military ceremony drew attention online. The network acknowledged that it aired an incorrect clip of Donald Trump during reports about the event. The broadcast quickly sparked discussion about the footage.
Fox News apologizes for airing old Donald Trump video
According to The Guardian, Fox News apologized after broadcasting archival footage of Donald Trump during coverage of a ceremony honoring six US service members killed in Kuwait. The network aired video from a December ceremony while discussing the Saturday dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. The footage did not show Trump wearing a hat, which he had worn during the actual ceremony.
Earlier on Saturday, Fox News showed the correct footage of Trump saluting at the ceremony. He stood alongside first lady Melania Trump, vice-president JD Vance, second lady Usha Vance, and other officials. Images circulated online showing the president saluting while wearing a white Trump-branded hat.
Less than an hour after the initial broadcast, a Fox News host referred to the president’s visit as the “dignified transfer earlier today.” However, the network showed viewers footage from the December ceremony instead. Fox News also aired the same clip of Trump saluting during at least two broadcasts on Sunday morning.
At 6:18 am ET a Fox & Friends host said: “President Trump, first lady Melania Trump, Vice-President JD Vance, and secretary lady Usha Vance [sic], attending a dignified transfer to honor the final homecoming of the six US service members killed in Kuwait.” Hours later the same host said: “a mistake made earlier on our program: during our coverage of yesterday’s dignified transfer, we inadvertently aired video from an older dignified transfer instead of the ceremony that took place yesterday. We deeply regret the error.”
A Fox News spokesperson said, “Fox News Media programs inadvertently aired file footage from a previous dignified transfer while discussing yesterday’s ceremony at Dover Air Force Base. The archival footage was mistakenly used during the video sourcing process. We regret the error and apologize for the incorrect footage.”
