Laura Nevenner and Birkan are one of several couples featured on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days Season 8. After meeting on Snapchat, the two formed a connection online. Laura eventually decided to fly to Turkey to meet Birkan, despite their twenty-one-year age difference. Initially, things were a bit awkward in person, but Laura and Birkan were able to reignite their chemistry.
Despite an intense physical attraction, Laura quickly discovered some red flags in the relationship. Birkan revealed that he was in a massive amount of debt and admitted to being a frequent gambler. Laura called her best friend, Michal, to express her concerns, which resulted in him booking a flight to Turkey to meet Birkan himself. However, Laura and Michal have a complicated history, which worries Birkan. He’s worried that Laura might choose Michal over him, which could be a valid concern.

During the Season 8 premiere, Laura explained that she and Michal have a very unique and complicated relationship. The two have been extremely close friends for years, and do almost everything together. Most people who know them have also suspected that there is something romantic between them. Laura explained that at one point, she even developed feelings for Michal. However, he didn’t seem to reciprocate them at the time, and she eventually decided to move on. Nonetheless, their friendship remained extremely close.
Shortly before Laura left for Turkey, she felt that Michal had begun having romantic feelings for her. She explained that he wanted to do things like hold her hand and even took her out on a date. However, Michal never confessed to his feelings. As a result, Laura decided to still go through with her trip to Turkey to pursue things with Birkan. After Laura arrived in Turkey, she joked that Michal was showing her more attention through texting than Birkan was in person.
Michal decided to fly to Turkey to meet Birkan, where he was instantly put off by his behavior
After Laura called Michal to discuss her worries about Birkan, he encouraged her to fly home. He argued that she could find someone much more compatible with her in the United States, without the red flags that concerned her about Birkan. Nonetheless, Laura was set on staying in Turkey. Michal then offered to come to Turkey to meet Birkan for himself. Before Laura could ask Birkan if he was ok with it, Michal booked a flight.
When Michal arrived in Turkey, he wasn’t thrilled with the welcome he received from Birkan. While Laura was ecstatic to see Michal, Birkan was quite cold toward him. When Michal tried to initiate a conversation, Birkan made things awkward by admitting he liked violence. He then asked Michal if he also liked violence. Michal was visibly uncomfortable and was concerned for Laura based on Birkan’s responses.
If Birkan keeps acting this way towards Michal, Laura could end up choosing to be with the latter
While Michal just arrived in Turkey, previews tease him and Birkan continuing to have a tense dynamic. At one point in the previews, the two shoot a game of pool together while Michal tells Birkan that Laura made a move on him. It’s not clear what he’s talking about, but it seems that he’s hinting at something clearly romantic. In another preview, Birkan proclaims to Michal that he will fight for his relationship with Laura.
Laura has made it clear that Michal’s opinion on Birkan is important to her. If Michal doesn’t think that Birkan is a good fit for Laura, he will likely express that to her. Laura could very well listen to this and decide to end things with Birkan if Michal doesn’t think he’s a good partner. Furthermore, witnessing Birkan’s cold behavior toward Michal could also be a huge red flag for Laura. If Laura decides that she and Birkan won’t work out, it’s possible she could end up pursuing a relationship with Michal back home. It will be interesting to see if Michal ends up confessing his feelings to Laura, as well as if she would still reciprocate them.
