The stars of Dune 3 gathered this week for the public launch of the upcoming movie. But Timothée Chalamet was noticeably absent from the event, prompting confusion from fans. As for why the film’s biggest star was missing? Timothée was “not invited,” according to a source.
Timothée Chalamet has reportedly become “a liability”
“He’s become a distraction,” an insider told Naughty But Nice of the decision to exclude Timothée from the launch. Elaborating on that, the source pointed to Timothée’s recent Best Actor loss at the Oscar Awards and his highly-publicized romance with Kylie Jenner.
“Every question would have been about the Oscar loss and Kylie — not the movie,” the source claimed.
“The cast was relieved,” the insider added, pointing to the likes of Timmy’s Dune co-stars, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. “This way the spotlight stayed on the film.”
“This was about protecting the movie,” the source continued. “[Timothée has] become a tabloid story. And right now, that’s a liability.”
Although not physically at the Dune 3 launch, Timothée did appear via video link. In a pre-recorded message, he praised director Denis Villeneuve and thanked the team behind the trilogy.
News of Timothée’s absence at the Dune 3 launch comes after an awkward award season for the actor. He lost out on winning Best Actor to Michael B. Jordan at the 98th Academy Awards this week. And the event’s host, Conan O’Brien, made several jokes at the Marty Supreme star’s expense.
In his opening monologue, the comedian made light of Timothée’s recent declaration that “no one cares” about ballet and opera. Timothée went viral for this comment, and received a lot of backlash.
Luckily for Timothée, there’s still plenty of time for damage control … Dune 3 is not scheduled for release until December 2026.
