Donald Trump addressed rising tensions in the Middle East following a recent escalation involving Iran and a key regional ally. As developments unfolded after a strike on a major energy site, the U.S. president issued a warning outlining potential consequences if the situation intensified further.
Donald Trump warns Iran over retaliation
According to Politico, President Donald Trump warned Iran not to retaliate against Qatar after Israel struck Iran’s South Pars gas field. He said the United States had no advance knowledge of the Wednesday attack and confirmed that Qatar had no involvement. Trump said the strike triggered Iran’s retaliation against Qatar and drove oil prices higher.
Trump wrote, “The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen.” He also said Israel struck a “relatively small section” of the natural gas field.
He warned that no further attacks would target the field unless Iran attacked Qatar again. Trump said, “NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar.”
He added that if Iran carried out another attack, the United States would act regardless of Israeli involvement. Trump said the U.S., “with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”
The South Pars gas field ranks as the world’s largest natural gas field and supplies about 80 percent of Iran’s domestic natural gas needs. Iran relies on this natural gas to generate electricity and provide heating across the country. The strike revealed a breakdown in coordination between the United States and Israel after they launched joint strikes on Feb. 28. Trump said Israel would not target South Pars again unless Iran launched further attacks on Qatar.
