Selena Gomez To Join Miley Cyrus for ‘Hannah Montana’ Anniversary Special

Miley Cyrus is revisiting her Disney roots as she gears up to celebrate 20 years of “Hannah Montana.” The upcoming anniversary special is already generating buzz among longtime fans who grew up with the hit series. Now, excitement has only intensified with the reveal that Selena Gomez will be part of the project. While details about her appearance remain limited, the reunion is expected to bring a wave of nostalgia and renewed interest in the iconic show.

Miley Cyrus confirms Selena Gomez’s cameo in ‘Hannah Montana’ anniversary special

Miley Cyrus has confirmed that Selena Gomez will appear in the upcoming “Hannah Montana” anniversary special. It is set to stream on Disney+. According to Cyrus, the cameo was arranged with help from podcast host Alex Cooper, who played a key role in shaping the fan-focused event. “I love Selena,” Cyrus said, adding that she hadn’t fully realized “how much our friendship meant to the fans.”

Gomez’s involvement is especially meaningful given her history with the series. She previously appeared on Hannah Montana in 2007 as Mikayla, a pop star rival to Cyrus’ character. Their on-screen tension became a memorable part of the show’s early run, even as Gomez later clarified that any rumors of real-life rivalry were overblown.

That said, the anniversary special itself is being described as a carefully crafted tribute rather than a reinvention. Cyrus has emphasized that she wanted to preserve the original spirit of the show. “We did not want irony. This is not a joke,” she said in a conversation with Variety.

Filmed in front of a live audience in Los Angeles, the special features recreated sets, archival pieces, and performances of iconic songs. Cyrus returned to tracks like “The Best of Both Worlds” for the first time in years. In the interview, she explained that stepping back into those moments felt natural. “It was literally a bike,” she said.

The idea for the special reportedly began as something Cyrus “manifested” before it was officially in development. She said she started talking about a 20th anniversary event publicly before it existed. Eventually, the project gained support from Disney as fan interest grew.
